We are often asked, “What’s the most important thing you need to tell people when you are promoting a show or event?” A variation on the 5 W’s of Journalism comes in handy.

First answer What and Why: What is the event about? Is there a key image, character or situation that quickly sums up the theme of the event? Why should anyone care about your event? Find the emotional connection you want to make with your audience. You may use third party endorsements that say why this event is important. But better yet, how can you instill a sense of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)? The visuals should entice your audience.

Then use your words to address the Who, When and Where…and How to get tickets.

Too often this simple formula is ignored and replaced with long lists of performers, producers and long-winded descriptions that have no connection to the audience you are trying to attract. Unless you have Denzel Washington or Bette Midler in the show, the less said about the cast and crew, the better.

Keep your communication focused on the most important elements as they relate to your target audience. Let us help you promote your next event and fill those seats.
